Autodesk Certified Tinkercad 3D Design Now available

A new exam to the Autodesk certification portfolio, Autodesk Certified in Tinkercad 3D Design is now available on Compass. Autodesk Certified in Tinkercad 3D Design equips your classroom with the tools, confidence, and curriculum-ready expertise to seamlessly integrate 3D design into your STEM classroom. Next Generation exam updates:

Expanding Next Generation User Interface to support additional Software Version Years

An improved exam experience was recently released for Test Candidates taking the AutoCAD, Inventor, and Revit exams. Initially released for the 2023 software version years, we are pleased to announce that the Next Generation User Interface will be available for exams using the 2023, 2024, and 2025 software titles. All AutoCAD English exams will use the Next Generation UI beginning in October 2023, with Inventor and Revit following in November. Please refer to the Exam Releases page for the release schedule of all version suites. Please note that Test Candidates taking the AutoCAD, Inventor, or Revit Live-in-the App exams using the 2023 software version year will have the option to take their exam using the new, Next Generation user interface or the Classic user interface. Test Candidates taking these exams using either the 2024 or 2025 software version year will only have the option to use the Next Generation User Interface.

The new user interface includes the following improvements to the exam experience:

• Split-screen view: Test Candidates will no longer toggle between the Exam Window and the Software Application. They will both be open side-by-side to provide a smoother exam experience
• Auto-opening of data files: Test Candidates will no longer be required to search and open the data files

To experience the new interface:

• For Test Candidates: In the exam selection window in Compass, select the "Next Generation" exam for the version year for their desired exam: e.g.: for AutoCAD 2025, select the "Autodesk Certified User: AutoCAD 2025 (Next Generation)" exam.
• For Organization Administrators: Download the ACU Next Generation exams in the "Manage Exams" area of the Admin section of Compass.

Live-in-the-Application 101

Autodesk Certified User is one of three exam programs at Certiport that are delivered with our exclusive Live-in-the-Application (LITA) technology. During an exam, the Compass software launches the corresponding locally installed Autodesk software so that portions of every Autodesk certification exam can take place in the actual program environment. This results in an exam experience that more closely resembles what a Test Candidate would encounter in the real world.

For example, the AutoCAD exam has an objective about matching properties of one object to other objects. Instead of answering a multiple choice question, the Test Candidate gets to demonstrate their knowledge by literally performing this task inside the AutoCAD program, during which Compass is measuring their performance.

Locally installed software versions

Like all software companies, Autodesk regularly introduces new versions of their software and retires older versions. Major versions are announced each year, while routine minor versions are released and utilized throughout that year as improvements and bug fixes are addressed.

Certiport exams are designed to run on a specific major version of the software. However, Certiport's release of new version of exam suites lags after Autodesk releases new major versions of their software.

Due to the intrinsic relationship between Compass and Autodesk software, we regularly test new minor (in-between) versions to ensure they work with our Compass software and result in the best experience for the Test Candidate. This non-stop evolution means that the minor versions we support can vary, and the person responsible for installing the applications needs to pay special attention in order to keep the locally installed program versions aligned with the program versions that Certiport has tested as supported, along with the exam versions that the Certiport Authorized Testing Center (CATC) has decided to administer.

Coming soon: Exam Previews for Test Candidates

The Exam Preview is intended to help Test Candidates prepare for test day by allowing them to validate login credentials for both Compass and the Autodesk software prior to test day. It is a short, single project exam that provides the full testing experience without taking up too much time. The Exam Preview can be launched from Compass and does not require inventory or vouchers to use.

The Configuration exam is intended to assist Administrators in validating each computer in their testing center is configured according to technical requirements and will be able to launch the appropriate Autodesk exam on test day.

Autodesk security update impacts on Impersonation Users

Autodesk recently released a security update for 2023 and 2024 versions of AutoCAD and Inventor software. This update potentially impacts users who use impersonation profiles in Compass for Windows to administer the following exams:

• Autodesk Certified User: AutoCAD 2023
• Autodesk Certified User: AutoCAD 2023 (Next Generation)
• Autodesk Certified User: AutoCAD 2024 (Next Generation)
• Autodesk Certified User: Inventor 2024 (Next Generation)

Certiport customers who use impersonation profiles have been receiving the following error message when Compass launches the AutoCAD or Inventor applications for the above exams (blurred to remove admin account username). This is because the MSEdgeWebView2.exe process – which is necessary for installing an embedded version of Microsoft Edge - is not elevated, meaning it lacks permissions to write to the admin profile folder.

Certiport has worked with several customers who have experienced this issue to help them continue to test successfully. If your test center uses Impersonation and has not yet started testing for the semester, please check whether exam delivery works as expected.

While Certiport continues to work on a more long-term solution for Compass for Windows, customers who use Impersonation and continue to receive the error message can use the following alternative solutions:

• Administer exams using Certiport Compass Cloud
• Administer exams using Certiport Exams from Home (EFH)
